Consort 8

Consort 8

Sydney’s unique early music ensemble, Consort 8 encompasses consorts of recorders and violas da gamba, lutes, theorbos, voice and percussion

We are an eleven-member ensemble bringing together soprano and countertenor voices with recorders, violas da gamba, lute, theorbo and percussion. Many of our musicians are multi-instrumentalists, creating a unique and versatile sound. We are the only ensemble of our kind in Sydney.

Based at the beautifully renovated St Paul’s Anglican Church, Burwood, Consort 8’s repertoire of sacred and secular music is extensive, ranging from 11th century to the present day; including works written by Australian composers.

The wealth of instruments in the consort allows a variety of colours and sonorities, enhancing the performance of the music, some of which have never been performed in Sydney.
